1. Bellagio Heist (2000) – $160,000

The famous Bellagio was the scene of one of the biggest casino heists in Las Vegas history. The ‘Biker Bandit,’ Anthony Carleo, made off in 2000 with $160,000 in chips. Now he literally walked up to a craps table, pulled a gun and walked away with the chips. That’s where things went wrong though, he tried to sell the chips, which were very traceable. Police arrested him while he attempted to cash in the chips, with his greed ultimately sealing his fate. This heist isn’t the most successful in terms of cash, but it’s iconic for the sheer boldness.

2. Melbourne (2013) – Crown Casino – $32 Million

And how about pulling off a $32 million heist with no need to leave your seat at all? And that’s what happened at Crown Casino in Melbourne in 2013. A high roller got together with somebody in security to mess with the casino’s surveillance system. They rigged the games together, and won $32 million. However, their luck didn’t last long. Authorities caught them before they could enjoy the winnings, after the casino noticed something fishy. It was one of the largest casino heists ever — and proof of how dangerous insider help can be.

3. Stardust Casino (1992) – $500,000

It is one of the most mysterious casino heists ever, the Stardust Casino heist in 1992. A loyal cashier named Bill Brennan walked out with $500,000 in cash and chips. Nothing to do, nothing to fight with, nothing to do but to leave with a bag full of money. The craziest part? He vanished without a trace. But Brennan was never found, making this one of the few heists where the thief got away. The story still fascinates people today.

4. The million pound wins include Ritz Casino, London (2004) – £1.3 Million

The 2004 Ritz Casino heist is where Technology meets gambling. Tiny lasers in the phones of a group of gamblers were used to predict where the roulette ball would land. In just one night, they won £1.3 million. Eventually, the casino caught on and arrested them, but the twist is, because what they did wasn’t illegal at the time they were released. This heist caused casinos everywhere to change their security systems. A perfect example of brains over brawn.

5. The Circus Circus Heist (1993) – $2.5 Million

At 21, Heather Tallchief was already pulling off one of the biggest casino heists in Las Vegas. In 1993, she was employed by an armored truck company that moved money for casinos. Instead of making the usual rounds, one day she drove off with $2.5 million. For over a decade, Tallchief managed to escape under a phony identity. After a while, she had tired of running and turned herself in. The job was bold, but it clearly showed that stealing millions isn’t as glamorous as it seems.

6. 2007 – Soboba Casino – $1.5 Million

Two former employees planned the Soboba Casino heist as an inside job. Efrain Navarro and Arturo Sanchez had the casino’s security protocols down to a T. Using this knowledge, they broke into the vault and made away with $1.5 million. As with many other casino heists, it didn’t end well for them. They were quickly tracked down by police, and arrested. This heist gives an idea on how dangerous insider knowledge can be in the wrong hands.

7. Treasure Island (2000) cost $30,000

While it wasn’t the biggest casino heist in terms of money, the Treasure Island heist was certainly dramatic. In 2000, the casino’s cashier cage was hit by two men who took off with $30,000. It’s a harsh reminder of how quickly something can go wrong in a heist.

8. Venetian, Las Vegas (2020) – $1.6 Million

In 2020, Ernesto Lopez walked out of The Venetian in Las Vegas with $1.6 million. This wasn’t a quick robbery, however. Lopez, a slot technician, took advantage of a system flaw to siphon money over time. He believed he could hide away by gambling the stolen money at the same casino. His excessive betting quickly drew attention, leading to his capture. And this heist shows how small, slow thefts can result in big consequences.

9. 2018: Casino Barcelona – $1.7 Million

Five masked robbers burst into Casino Barcelona during a major poker tournament in 2018 and grabbed $1.7 million in cash. It was a terrifyingly fast heist that was well planned. Security cameras got everything, but the robbers got away. The police caught the thieves within weeks. High payout, but failed heist because of the excellent security footage, again showing that casinos are a hard business to beat.

10. MGM Grand (1993) – $500,000

Professional con artist Roy Garner and his accomplice pulled off the MGM Grand heist in Las Vegas, making off with $500,000. They skillfully manipulated the casino’s security protocols to make everything appear normal. But they had no idea that one of their own turned them in. It’s a classic example of how even the best laid heists can go wrong due to human error.

Conclusion

Many heists went wrong through greed, betrayal or just plain bad luck. And yet their stories contain the thrill and danger of attempting to outsmart a casino.
