Michigan’s regulatory approach is important when considering sweepstakes-style casino
access. For example, the Michigan Gaming Control Board has ordered unlicensed online
gaming businesses to stop serving Michigan residents, including businesses using
sweepstakes, lottery or raffle-style structures.
Michigan Penal Code Section 750.372 also regulates lotteries and gift enterprises.
However, the statute contains a limited exception for a promotional activity that is
occasional and ancillary to a business’s primary activity. That exception does not
automatically apply to every sweepstakes-style gaming model.
For Michigan players, the practical distinction is between
entertainment-only social casino access and
prize-eligible sweepstakes play. Modo’s Michigan access falls into
the first category because Gold Coins are non-redeemable and Sweeps Coin mode is
unavailable in the state.
Finally, platform availability does not establish that an operator has been licensed
or approved by Michigan. The information on this page is for general informational
