The NFL Week 5 injury report for 2026 features several situations that could have a major effect on fantasy football lineups before Sunday’s games.

Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith have both missed practice this week for Philadelphia, Lamar Jackson has yet to practice for Baltimore, and Cincinnati is monitoring both Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. There is better news in Washington, where Jayden Daniels has returned to full practice participation after missing the previous two games.

With final game designations still to come for much of the Sunday slate, fantasy managers should have backup plans ready rather than waiting until the last minute.

Last updated: October 9, 2026. Practice participation and official game designations can change before kickoff. Check final inactive lists before locking fantasy lineups.

Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith Injury Updates

Philadelphia has one of the most important injury situations of Week 5 ahead of its game against Jacksonville.

Saquon Barkley has missed practice with a hamstring injury suffered against the Rams. Consecutive missed practices make his status one fantasy managers need to follow through Philadelphia’s final injury designation.

If Barkley cannot play, the Eagles would need to redistribute a significant amount of backfield work. Will Shipley would become much more relevant for fantasy managers, particularly in deeper leagues and flex spots.

DeVonta Smith has also remained out of practice because of a hamstring injury after missing Philadelphia’s Week 4 game.

Philadelphia’s receiving depth is also being tested. Marquise Brown has missed practice, while Dontayvion Wicks has been limited with a hamstring issue.

Fantasy impact: Barkley managers should have a replacement ready. Smith should not be placed into a starting lineup without confirmation that he is active, and any additional absences would increase the opportunity available to Philadelphia’s healthy receivers.

See the Eagles’ Week 5 injury report for current team information.

Lamar Jackson Injury: Will He Play in Week 5?

Lamar Jackson remains one of the biggest fantasy questions of the week after suffering an ankle injury against Tennessee.

Jackson did not practice Wednesday or Thursday as Baltimore prepared for its Sunday night matchup with Atlanta.

The Ravens have not treated his lack of practice participation as an automatic indication that he will miss the game. Head coach Jesse Minter has said Jackson is experienced enough to potentially play despite limited practice time.

Fantasy managers should still prepare for the possibility that he is unavailable.

Tyler Huntley would be Baltimore’s next option if Jackson cannot play. Huntley replaced Jackson during the second half against Tennessee, and Baltimore’s coaching staff has expressed confidence in his ability to run the offense.

Fantasy impact: Jackson managers should carry another quarterback into the weekend. Huntley would have Superflex and two-quarterback value if he starts, but he would not automatically become a preferred option in standard one-QB leagues.

Jackson’s absence would also create additional uncertainty around the ceilings of Baltimore pass catchers such as Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews.

See Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson injury report for team information.

Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins Injury Updates

Cincinnati’s passing game carries two major injury questions entering its matchup with Miami.

Ja’Marr Chase

Ja’Marr Chase missed Wednesday’s practice while in concussion protocol before progressing to limited participation Thursday.

That is movement in the right direction, but a limited practice does not by itself clear a player from concussion protocol.

Fantasy impact: If Chase receives clearance, he returns immediately to fantasy lineups. Managers should still have another receiver available until his game status is confirmed.

Tee Higgins

Tee Higgins missed both Wednesday and Thursday practices while dealing with groin and neck issues.

Two consecutive missed practices make his Friday participation particularly important.

Fantasy impact: Higgins carries significantly more uncertainty than a normal week. If Chase or Higgins cannot play, Cincinnati’s remaining receivers would move into larger roles and Joe Burrow would be operating with a reduced group of established weapons.

The Bengals’ official Week 5 injury report tracks both players’ practice participation.

Jayden Daniels Trending Toward Week 5 Return

Washington received encouraging news at quarterback this week.

Jayden Daniels returned as a full participant in practice while continuing his recovery from a left elbow injury. He has missed Washington’s previous two games.

Full participation is a major step forward after Daniels was limited throughout practice last week before being ruled out.

Fantasy impact: Daniels becomes a potential Week 5 starter again if Washington clears him to play. His rushing ability and dual-threat ceiling make him difficult to leave on fantasy benches when healthy.

The situation around his receivers is less settled.

Terry McLaurin has been dealing with a hamstring injury, while Stefon Diggs has also appeared on Washington’s injury report with a hamstring issue.

If either receiver is unavailable, Daniels could return with a thinner receiving group than usual.

Washington’s Jayden Daniels practice report details his return to full participation.

Keenan Allen Remains Limited

Keenan Allen continues to manage a groin injury ahead of Indianapolis’ matchup with Pittsburgh.

Allen was limited again Thursday after missing the Colts’ previous game because of the injury.

Fantasy impact: A return to practice is encouraging, but managers should wait for Indianapolis’ final game designation before treating Allen as a normal fantasy starter.

If he plays, his workload and any possibility of limitation should be considered when choosing between Allen and healthier WR3 or flex alternatives.

Running back Jonathan Taylor was a full participant Thursday after receiving a rest designation earlier in the week, so there is no comparable injury concern with Taylor at this stage.

See the Colts’ practice report for player participation information.

More Week 5 Injuries to Watch

Dallas Goedert

Goedert has been limited in practice for Philadelphia. Tight end is a thinner fantasy position, so his final designation deserves attention before the Eagles play Jacksonville.

Fantasy impact: Managers relying on Goedert should identify a replacement before the early Sunday game.

Jaylen Wright

Miami running back Jaylen Wright was added to the Week 5 injury report as a limited participant with a foot issue.

Fantasy impact: His status matters more in deeper formats and for managers tracking the distribution of touches in Miami’s backfield.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt

Washington has also listed Croskey-Merritt as limited while he manages a groin issue.

Fantasy impact: Keep an eye on his final designation if you are considering him as a deeper-league flex option.

Monday Night Football Injury Watch

Buffalo and Los Angeles close Week 5 on Monday night, which creates an additional challenge for fantasy managers. Players in the Monday game give you less flexibility if their status remains uncertain through the weekend.

Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is no longer carrying an injury designation after returning to action, which is positive news for fantasy managers.

Los Angeles is still monitoring other players ahead of Monday, while Buffalo’s injury report also contains several names to watch as the weekend approaches.

Fantasy advice: If you plan to use a questionable Monday player, try to keep another Bills or Rams option available in the same flex or position slot. That preserves more flexibility if late news changes the situation.

See the Rams’ injury information as Monday approaches.

What Fantasy Managers Should Do Before Week 5

Have a Saquon Barkley contingency: His hamstring injury could materially change Philadelphia’s backfield. Will Shipley deserves particular attention if Barkley is ruled out.

Do not assume Lamar Jackson will play: Keep another quarterback available until Baltimore confirms his status.

Monitor Cincinnati closely: Ja’Marr Chase must clear concussion protocol, while Tee Higgins has missed consecutive practices.

Watch Philadelphia’s early kickoff: The Eagles play Jacksonville in London, so Barkley, Smith and Goedert decisions arrive earlier than the main Sunday slate.

Do not overlook positive injury news: Jayden Daniels returning to full practice is significant and could return a high-upside fantasy quarterback to Week 5 lineups.

Check final inactive lists: Practice participation provides useful information, but official inactive announcements determine who actually plays.

Barkley’s status has not been finalized. He has missed practice while dealing with a hamstring injury, making Philadelphia’s final injury designation important for fantasy managers.

Who should I pick up if Saquon Barkley is out?

Will Shipley becomes considerably more interesting if Barkley cannot play because Philadelphia would need to redistribute its running-back workload.

Is Lamar Jackson playing against the Falcons?

Jackson has missed Wednesday and Thursday practice because of an ankle injury. Baltimore has not ruled him out, but fantasy managers should have another quarterback available until his status is confirmed.

Is Ja’Marr Chase playing in Week 5?

Chase progressed from missing Wednesday’s practice to limited participation Thursday while working through concussion protocol. He still needs clearance before fantasy managers can confidently place him in lineups.

Is Tee Higgins playing in Week 5?

Higgins missed both Wednesday and Thursday practices with groin and neck issues. His Friday participation and final game designation will provide a clearer indication of his availability.

Is Jayden Daniels playing in Week 5?

Daniels returned to practice as a full participant this week after missing two games because of a left elbow injury. That is an encouraging sign, although fantasy managers should still confirm his final game status.

When should I check NFL inactive players?

Official inactive lists are released closer to kickoff. Fantasy managers should check them before each game window, particularly when relying on players who carried questionable or doubtful designations during the week.

Before lineup lock: Check official team injury reports and inactive lists. Practice participation can change throughout the week, and a player’s status is not final until the team provides its game designation and inactive list.

Fantasy football note: Injury information and fantasy implications reflect information available on October 9, 2026. Player availability, practice participation and expected workloads can change before kickoff.
